Veterinary medicine and vet schools in Europe

Veterinary medicine and vet schools in Europe

Veterinary medicine is one of the so‑called regulated professions; therefore, its studies must meet the demands of the European Union guidelines and the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education.

Students of Veterinary medicine apply the basic knowledge within the subjects focused on the health and hygiene problems of animal breeding. For medical purposes, they use particularly the knowledge acquired in the fields of anatomy, histology, nutrition and dietetics, physiology, pathological physiology, pharmacology, toxicology, laboratory, and clinical diagnostics. The following should facilitate the application of obtained knowledge to practice: theoretical and practical studies of specific subjects in veterinary and therapeutic fields particularly in a preventive sphere with a focus on environmental protection, ecology, and production of hygienically acceptable food and raw materials of animal origin. Students become acquainted with waste-free technologies, possibilities of harmless disposal of wastes or their further utilization. They should be able to use their respective knowledge about residual substances and their influence on the quality of raw materials and food of animal origin within the food chain in order to protect animal health and the environment and prevent the direct impact on human health.
